Coimbatore: Three youths, who stole five mobile phones from a courier boy after ordering them online furnishing fake name and address, were arrested by the rural police in Coimbatore on Tuesday.
One of the accused - M.Muthukumar, 23 from Nallampalayam - had placed an order for five mobiles through Flipkart furnishing fake details but had given his original phone number.
Police said Udayasuriyan, 26, a staff of the E. Com Express courier had gone to Kembanur near Thondamuthur to dispatch the consignment on May 11. He was asked to come to a deserted place in Brindhavan Garden area, where Muthukumar and his two accomplices - P.Manikandan alias Hari, 23 from Vadavalli and B.Ashokkumar, 23 from Vedapatti - managed to rob his bag containing the mobile phones and pen drives.
“The three persons had asked the courier staff to wait for some time claiming that one of their friends was on the way with cash. Trusting them, Udayasuriyan had placed his bag on the bike and was talking over the phone when the culprits fled in their two-wheelers after snatching his bag,” police said.
Following a complaint by M. Udayasuriyan, the Thondamuthur police registered a case against the three persons under IPC section 379 (theft) and arrested them on Tuesday. Investigations revealed Muthukumar is a B.Com (CA) graduate who is employed in a mall and Hari had passed out of college only last year and Ashok Kumar, a school dropout, is working as a welder.
