New Delhi: The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court seeking review of the judgment banning display of photographs of chief minister/ministers/public servants in government advertisements.
The petition filed through its counsel Yogesh Khanna said the top court in the guise of judicial review had traversed into the policy domain of the executive and interfered in its decisions.
In its recent verdict, the top court held that except for photos of the President, PM and the Chief Justice of India, no other public functionary should display his or her photos in government advertisements to commemorate inauguration of events or to highlight government achievements.
The TN government pointed out that the expert panel had recommended display of photos of CMs/Governors as well’, but the apex court had restrained the states from displaying photos of CMs/Governors.
