IPL 8: Mahendra Singh Dhoni fined for 'inappropriate public comment'
CSK skipper termed a decision against Dwayne Smith as a 'horrible decision'
Mumbai: Chennai Super Kings’ skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was fined following the team’s defeat against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 1 of the eighth edition of the Indian Premier League on Tuesday.

Dhoni, during his post-match interview, had criticised umpire Richard Illingworth’s LBW decision against CSK opener Dwayne Smith. Dhoni said, “We got a horrible decision from the umpire which didn’t help.”

The West Indian was judged LBW by the umpire in the first over during Chennai Super Kings' chase. The batsman was clearly upset with the decision and was seen fuming as he made it to the dressing room.

According to a media release, “After the Pepsi IPL Qualifier 1 match in Mumbai last evening, MS Dhoni captain of Chennai Super Kings was fined 10% of his match fee by the match referee for inappropriate public comment in relation to an umpire’s decision.”
It added, “Mr. Dhoni admitted the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials) and accepted the sanction.”
