Chennai: Two days after a 30-year-old woman, wife of a software professional, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her flat in Pallikaranai, the police tracked down a godman, who is linked to her death. Police sources indicated that she could have hired the godman to do pooja so that she could win back her husband’s affection.

The victim, Arathi, wife of Raju, an IT professional and a native of Usilampatti, near Madurai, was working in the HR department of a construction firm. Raju found Arathi dead when he reached home on Monday night. “The godman’s role in her death is not clear. But we will know in a day,” police sources said.

The letter believed to have been written by her, addressed to Lord Siva, was thought to be a suicide note by the investigators. But now it looks like the godman made her write the letter to God and asked her to keep it with the figurine attached to her thaali chain.

But the gold chain was missing from her body, sources added. There were some marks on her neck. Her body was found in the bathroom. Raju had told the police that her gold thaali was missing, hinting that she could have been murdered for gain. But investigators were pushing the theory of suicide, probably by hanging, on Tuesday.
