THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister  Oommen Chandy has justified the use of a private luxury car by Social Welfare Minister M.K. Muneer that fatally knocked down a college professor at Kayamkulam late on Monday night.

Replying to reporters’ queries, the chief minister said that there was nothing wrong in the ministers using private cars  as there was a shortage of government vehicles.

When asked if it  was proper for the minister to use the car of a businessman , Mr. Chandy said that the Range Rover sports utility car  used by Mr Muneer was owned by one of his party members.

“Many ministers are using hired vehicles as there is shortage of cars  in the government.  There is nothing wrong even in using official number plate or beacon lights on  private vehicles,” Mr. Chandy said.
