Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited KR Hospital here and walked through various wings of the hospital along with his cabinet colleagues, PWD Minister Dr H. C. Mahadevappa and Revenue Minister Mr Srinivas Prasad for more than two hours to supervise the existing facilities at the hospital.

He obtained information on the lacunae and the additional facilities required at the hospital. He visited the emergency ward, operation theatre, special wards of KR Hospital, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology and the Cheluvamba Children’s and Maternity hospital, attached to Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute.

Speaking to mediapersons, he said, “We will come up with a six floored, 350 bedded Super Speciality Hospital at a cost of Rs 350 crore in KR Hospital premises to meet the rush at the hospital, by demolishing two blocks of special wards.”

Cheluvamba Hospital is handling 50 deliveries a day and is over burdened as patients are not just coming from the district alone but also from neighbouring districts. “Hence we will come up with a 200 bedded hospital for maternity care at a cost of Rs 70 crores,” he said.

For the safety of babies, a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) will be coming up at Cheluvamba children’s hospital. Funds to the tune of Rs 4 crore has already been released for the purpose. Twenty more incubators will be coming up in the new NICU, he said.

Mr Siddaramaiah also informed that a Trauma Care Centre at a cost of Rs 20 crore will be set up in PK Sanatorium premises in Mysuru. He said  Jayadeva hospital require better maintenance to prevent infections. The hospital is short of paramedical staff and the Medical Education Secretary will be asked to fill the posts, he said.

While KR Hospital is a teaching hospital attached to Mysuru Medical College,  there is a proposal for a separate district hospital to handle the rush, “The new superspecialty hospital which is being proposed is for the same purpose,” Mr Siddaramaiah said.

PWD Minister Dr H.C. Mahadevappa said there is a proposal for a separate 500 bedded district hospital for Mysuru. We will consider it,” he said. Mr Siddaramaiah also visited 16 victims of the recent accident in KR Nagar.
