LG’s next OLED TV can be stuck to the wall with a magnet
OLED televisions can be made slimmer and lighter, but are fairly expensive too
The next television set in your living room or bedroom will be stuck to your wall with the help of just a few magnets. Yes, similar to that small grocery list that you hold up on your refrigerator with a small magnet, the LG OLED television will now also be hung on your wall with just a few magnets supporting it.
OLED televisions are the next preferred means of displays after LCD and Plasma panels. Owing to their superior picture quality, lower power consumption, slim profile and most importantly, they can also foldable, OLED televisions will be the future of almost all televisions and handhelds in future. However, the process of manufacturing OLED displays (especially large sizes) is very expensive.
OLED displays eliminate the need of a backlight as they can produce light themselves. This makes the display panel lighter, slimmer and highly flexible. Moreover, the display has a huge power saving benefit too. Taking advantage of these benefits, LG has unveiled one of the thinnest and lightest television set, dubbed as ‘Wallpaper TV’. Though the television set is not a production model as yet and is a proof of concept display, the real ones will be here in a few years for sure.
The 55-inch television panel is flexible, weighs just 1.9Kg and is less than a millimeter thick. The present selling LG flagship OLED television set is barely 4.3mm thick. The ‘wallpaper TV’ display panel, or the television set can be stuck to the wall with the help of some magnets, thanks to the slim and light weight panel. To remove the display from the wall, you simply need to peel it away from the magnetic back.
