Hyderabad: A seven-year-old girl was found dead in a pit in the Gopal Reddy Layout of Nizampet in Kukatpally. The young girl had reportedly gone missing from home about a week ago. Police has identified the deceased as M. Sandhya.
The deceased is the younger daughter of M. Venkatamma, who is a native of Srikakulam district in AP and works as a daily wage labourer in a nearby construction site. She started living with her three daughters in the Gopal Reddy Layout, after her husband passed away a few years ago. “There were six pits dug to construct pillars for a new structure at Gopal Reddy Layout. However, the builders could not proceed with the construction as the revenue officials had objected to the building stating that it was on government land.
The pits were then left open and they had collected water following the recent rains. It looks like the girl was killed four days ago” said N. Sanjeeva Rao, the assistant commissioner of police, Kukatpally. “We suspect my mother’s hand in the death of my sister” said the victim’s sister in her complaint. It is believed that Venkatamma has some illicit relationships. “We suspect it is a murder. However, there is a chance that the girl fell in the pit while she was playing. But we can ascertain the facts only after the post-mortem examination.” added the official.
