HyderabadThe police has arrested the robber who opened fire in an ATM centre at Yusufguda and robbed a woman. The culprit, Pedapally Shiva Kumar Reddy, 21, belongs to the Vallu village of Kadapa district in AP. He was arrested with the help of CCTV images. After robbing the woman Shiva Kumar was hiding at the Sai Durga Hostel at Ameerpet. “We got CCTV footages from the ATM centre and also from shops around the area. Though he was covering his face inside the ATM booth the footages we got from shops outside showed his face clearly,” a cop said.

The police identified the culprit with the help of locals and caught him from the hostel. Cops seized a country pistol, six rounds, three ATM cards, a gold chain and ring, five mobile phones, a button knife, a handkerchief and Rs 4,000 cash from the culprit. Police commissioner Mahender Reddy said Shiva Kumar came to Hyderabad looking for a job but decided to rob women and old people. “He is a Class X dropout. He got habituated to luxuries and hatched a plan to rob. He procured a 9 mm country pistol from Maharashtra,” said Mr Reddy.

“Shiva Kumar surveyed the ATM and was waiting for a chance to rob,” said the commissioner. When the victim Srilalitha was on way to office she went to the SBI ATM near Valu Mart in Yousufguda to withdraw money. “When she was trying to withdraw money Shiva Kumar covered his face with a handkerchief and got into the ATM. He took out a pistol and asked her to give money. To convince her that the firearm was real he fired once,” Mr Reddy said. After the robbery Shiva Kumar went back to his hostel at Ameerpet.

The cops booked a case against him for robbery and criminal intimidation. He will be produced before court on Friday. The victim, Srilalita, works in a software firm.

Shiva worked for T-wood:

Peddapalli Shiva Kumar Reddy worked as a daily wager in Tollywood units. Seeing the luxurious lifestyle of actors he decided to make money and lead a lavish life. “The only way he saw to make money was robbery. He decided the easiest way to rob was when people withdrew money from ATMs,” said a policeman.

But Shiva was an amateur. He did not realise that the CCTVs of shops he passed on way to the ATM booth had caught his image.
