Youth denied job for being Muslim
Zeeshan later uploaded a screen shot of the email on Facebook which later went viral
Mumbai: A 22-year-old boy from Kurla was in shock when a company he applied to for a job replied saying that they didn’t hire Muslim candidates. The BKC-based Hare Krishna Exports Pvt. Ltd subsequently gave out a statement regretting the incident — apart from reaffirming their secular credentials — and identifying a newly-appointed HR trainee for the mistake after the episode began sparking outrage on social media.
The youth has, meanwhile, taken legal recourse and filed an FIR with the Vinobha Bhave Nagar police station. Significantly, the same firm was in the limelight last year for its pro-employee HR policies that includes extravagant bonuses such as cars and flats. Company founder Savji Dholakia had announced 424 Fiat Punto Evo cars and 207 two-bedroom flats to the employees as part of the Diwali bonus.
According to Zeeshan Ali Ahmed Khan, he had emailed his resume to Hare Krishna Exports Pvt. Ltd. The firm is a leading diamond trading company with a presence in several countries where it exports the precious stones. “I mailed my resume on careers@diamondbyhk.com around 3 pm on Tuesday when I received a response within 20 minutes that just shattered my confidence and left me dazed.
The email said: We regret to inform you that we hire only Non-Muslim candidates,” said a furious Zeeshan, who has decided to not take up the job even if it is offered by the firm. Zeeshan later uploaded a screen shot of the email on Facebook which later went viral on social networking sites including Twitter.
