Kozhikode passes exams with flying colours

The district has the maximum number of students scoring 100 per cent

Students celebrating after result of higher secondary examination were declared on Thursday.

Kozhikode: Kozhikode district has once again emerged  with flying colours in the higher secondary examination scoring the highest pass percentage of  87.05 bettering the last year’s figure of 83.87 percent.

The district has also the maximum number of students scoring 100 percent marks.  The other districts in Malabar,  including Kasargod, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur,  also recorded  better  results  compared to last year.  Kannur district has  86.43 percent pass followed by Wayanad   85.84,  Malappuram  85.55 and Kasargod  80.85.

Out of  32,876 students who had registered for the examination from Kozhikode,   32,707 appeared and 17  scored 100 percent mark. In  2014, only two schools in the district, namely Silver Hills Higher Secondary School and Higher Secondary School for the Handicapped at Kolathara scored 100 percent pass.  But this year,  two other schools-- Presentation HSS, Chevayur, and St Jospeh’s Anglo- Indian Girls HSS-- have joined  the list.

Achuthan Girls HSS faculty P.K. Rajan said, “the performance of the district has been improving and all credit goes to the dedication of students, teachers and the school authorities.”  

Though physics and mathematics proved to be the toughest papers for science stream  and business and accountancy for the commerce stream, the students managed to put up a brilliant show, he added.

As many as 17 students from Kozhikode, 18  from Wayanad, 13  each from Kannur and Kasargod and 12  from Malappuram scored 100 percent marks. Only one school each from Kozhikode, Kannur and Malappuram districts has a pass percentage  below 30.
