HYDERABAD: The fate of 107 common institutions that were listed under Schedule X of AP Reorganisation Act 2014 hangs in balance as the deadline set for them for bifurcation ends on June 2. While the Telangana government is trying to take over these instutions after the date, the Andhra Pradesh government is looking towards the Centre for help.
Majority of these institutions are located in Hyderabad and the TS government argues that geographically all these institutions belong to Telangana. The TS government is planning to remove all the contract and outsource employees with the AP nativity from the jobs after June 2, which has became a cause of concern for them.
The Reorganisation Act says that both the states should arrive at a consensus on these 107 institutions over bifurcation within a year of the division. If they fail to do so, the Centre has to take a decision on this issue. With just about 10 days left for the deadline, the chances of both the states arriving at a consensus look nil.
The AP government is hoping for the Centre to come to its rescue after the deadline. If the Centre fails to resolve the issue by June 2, the responsibility of setting up all these institutions in the AP or convincing the TS to continue the common services for few more months lies with the Centre.
The Andhra Pradesh government had written a letter to the Centre last week stating that if the Centre is willing to set up all these institutions in AP with its own funds, the AP government has no objection to leave them to TS.
But AP government has been demanding the division of these institutions in proportion to ratio of population, that is 42:58 between TS and AP, similar to that of institutions listed under Schedule IX of the Act. The AP government is terming the classification of these 107 institutions under Schedule X as ‘unscientific.’
