Hyderabad: Teachers from other countries are now coming to teach foreign languages to children in Hyderabad schools. Some of the international schools in the city have begun hiring teachers from other countries like the US, Spain and China. Schools say that Mandarin is the most preferred language now surpassing other European languages like Spanish.

Teachers were speaking at the two-day Hyderabad Kids Expo here on Friday. Experts said the stress on Mandarin is due to the economic establishment slowly moving to China from the West.

“We have been here in Hyderabad for the past six months with MNR Scottdale School. We teach American English, Spanish and French,” teachers Ligia Martinez and Claudi Albarran from the US said.

A child can learn up to seven languages at younger age, studies have shown. A growing number of parents are enrolling their toddlers and pre-schoolers in foreign-language classes. And the number is increasing said Indumathi, a teacher.
