Hyderabad: A woman sanitation employee of Qutbullapur municipality committed suicide by setting herself ablaze on Saturday. The incident happened at around 12.30 pm at Kuna Mahalaxmi Nagar near the Rajiv Gruhakalpa Complex. The victim, J. Renuka, 34, who was staying in Kuna Mahalaxmi Nagar along with her mother approached the ration shop three days ago to get her ration rice. The dealer refused it saying that she had not submitted her Aadhaar card copy. “We submitted all documents but still he was not giving us our ration. My daughter approached him. But he always denied her ration stating some reason,” said J. Hanumamma, the victim’s mother in her complaint.
It was reported that the dealer told that he will distribute the rice on Sunday. Hearing this Renuka became furious and threatened that she would commit suicide in front of the shop. “She lit her sari with a matchstick and since it was a silk sari it caught fire immediately and in no time she was engulfed in flames,” said Jeedimetla SI B. Ramesh.
The public alerted the 108 ambulance service and she was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment. “She was admitted with more than 80 per cent burns. She succumbed while undergoing treatment at around 6 pm,” added the inspector. The police has filed a case and investigation is going on.
