Coimbatore: A certificate of bravery was awarded to two home guards personnel of the Coimbatore district by the superintendent of police Dr M. Sudhakar on Monday for having nabbed two criminals who were in the possession of country made guns and gun powder.

The SP and the commandant of Home Guards Dr Sudhakar appreciated the Home Guards of Mettupalayam unit, Shanmuga Sundaram and Satish for their act of bravery in nabbing the two accused despite the fact that the accused were in possession of weapons.

The Home Guards were on night duty last month when they noticed two persons moving around suspiciously in the wee hours of the night. When the accused sighted the Home Guards on patrol they attempted to flee.

After a hot chase, the home guards personnel who were unarmed nabbed Thangaraj (32) and Dharman (35) with guns and handed them over to the Mettupalayam police station. A case was registered under the Arms Act and the accused were remanded.
