Hyderabad: The Telangana government is making steady progress in its effort to scrap the zonal system in recruitment exams. Undivided Andhra Pradesh had six zones, four in Seemandhra and two — Zones V and VI — in Telangana.
These zones were created following the Presidential Order of 1973, as per Article 371(D) of the Constitution, to provide equitable job opportunities for Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana districts. In the zonal system, while filling district-level posts, 20 per cent of total posts should be offered under open merit quota.
