AP may be forced to change water schedule

There is no water available for releasing from Srisailam project

VijayawadaThe AP government has already asked to release water for the kharif season from mid June but the water reserves are very low on the projects on Krishna river. According to officials, no water reserves are available in any of  the upstream projects from Pulichintala project. The water store is only  19.27 TMC feet in Almatti project at present  as against 129.721 TMC feet total water storage capacity. Almost the same water  level was in the project this year last time.
 
Similarly, water is 17.41 TMC feet in Narayanapur project as against   total 37.64 TMC feet storage capacity. More than three TMC feet of water storage was in Narayanapur project in the same period last year. Besides 6.09 TMC feet water storage is in Jurala project as against the total capacity of 11.94 TMC storage capacity. 
On the other hand, water  is only 5.09 TMC feet available in Tungabhadra project as against 100.86 TMC feet storage capacity.
 
Only 29.4 TMC feet water is in Srisailam project as against 215.807 total water storage capacity. There is no water available for  releasing from Srisailam project. Actually water of 56.08 TMC feet was available during the same period last year.
 
No sufficient water reserves are available in Nagarjuna Sagar also. Presently the water is 139.44 TMC feet water is available in the project. The water level is 514 feet but water release is only possible up to 510 feet as per government orders and court’s directions. 
 
Only four feet water release is possible as per the present water levels. There is no flow to any project on Krishna river during the last several days. The AP government announced  thewater release  plan but water release could be possible from available water in  upstream projects only, said Krishna district irrigation department superintending engineer C. Ramakrishna. Further  plans depends on the rains in future.
