Counterfeit racket busted, Rs 2.92 lakh currency seized

MALAPPURAM: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan and his accomplice were arrested with Rs 20.92 lakh counterfeit notes at Perinthalmanna in Malappuram during the wee hours of Monday.
Perinthalmanna deputy superintendent of police (DYSP) K.P. Vijayakumar, carried out the operation to apprehend the suspects while they were transporting the currency from Bangalore.
Mr Vijaya-kumar said the arrested were identified as Kris-hnakumar, 42, native of Karunagapalli in Kollam and David Sam John, 45, a Palakkad native, who is currently living in Bangalore.
The DYSP added that Krishnakumar was working in the Jaisalmer region in Rajasthan along the Pakistan border with the BSF and was on medical leave for the last few months. There is no proof that the currency was printed in Pakistan, he said.
During the interrogation, the duo said that they had procured the currency from Chennai. They were nabbed from Mannarkad road in Perinthalmanna on the basis of a tip-off.
The arrested were produced before the First class magistrate judicial court in Perinthamanna and were remanded to judicial custody.
