RajahmundryWomen and child welfare authorities opened a web portal recently with information pertaining to nutrition and health care. This is an attempt to keep tabs on provision of supplementary nutrition and health care to children, adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women at Anganwadi centres and bring down the infant and maternal mortality rate and promote institutional delivery.

The child development project officers and supervisors of Integrated Child Development Sche-me are supposed to visit the AWCs on a regular basis and find out the nutrition and health care being given to the targeted beneficiaries. They should also keep tabs on functioning of play schools for children being run AWCs.

Children suffering from malnutrition are to be given additional nutrition under the recently launched Gorumuddalu scheme and supply nutrition being given to the adolescent girls under Sabala scheme has also to be monitored on a regular basis.

Implementation of immunisation programme for children and details pertaining to regular checking of height and weight of the children to monitor their growth rate also has to be updated on the website. The women and child welfare officials should also promote institutional delivery in a big way by identifying the pregnant women and follow up until they deliver the baby and also provide health care to the baby and all such information goes online.

West Godavari women and child welfare project director G. Chandrasekhar Rao said, “We are keeping a close tab on impl-ementation of welfare schemes for the benefit of the targeted beneficiaries and sending reports online for the perusal of senior officials. The move is aimed to follow up the programme and make any changes if needed to implement the schemes in a better way.”
