Couple poison to death 3 children, end lives

Couple were depressed over the physical disabilities of their three children

Chennai: A farmer couple allegedly poisoned their three children to death before committing suicide by hanging at their house at Markandeyapuram in Keeranur near Palani on Tuesday night. The couple K. Murugesan (50) and M. Krishnaveni (40)  were suspected to be depressed over the physical disabilities of their three children, prompting them to take the extreme step, police said.

On Tuesday evening, they mixed poison in food and served it to their daughters, M. Thenmozhi (18), M.Vasanthi (16) and their 14-year-old son, M.Vasanth Kumar.Later, the couple hanged to death, police said. Thenmozhi was suffering from night blindness while her siblings could not walk and the son was also mentally deranged, police said. Police investigations have revealed that the couple was upset over the condition of their children and shared it with their relatives.

“Further, they were also under pressure to get their eldest daughter married and with her physical problem, it was difficult for the family to cope,” a police officer said.The family stayed in a house in the middle of their farmland. On Wednesday morning, villagers who passed by the house found the couple hanging. The locals broke into the house to find the three children lying dead and informed the cops.
