Dowry death: Bengaluru woman kills self

BENGALURU: Unable to bear alleged dowry harassment by her in-laws and husband, a 28-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her residence in T Dasarahalli in Peenya police station limits on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Umavathi, a native of Tumakuru. She was married to Raghu, a painter by profession around seven years ago and the couple has a
daughter.
Police said the incident came to light around 6.30 pm, when Raghu returned home from work. He immediately informed Uma’s parents who in turn informed the police. The police reached the spot and recovered the body.
During investigation, the police recovered a suicide note, in which Umavathi had accused Raghu and her in-laws Rajeshwari and her husband Manjunath of harassing her for dowry. Unable to bear with the harassment, she allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling.
Based on a complaint filed by Umavathi’s father Gangiah, the Peenya police have registered a case against Raghu and his parents under sections 498 A and 306 of IPC.
