Hyderabad: A petty thief was brutally murdered in the Tandur mandal of Ranga Reddy district late on Wednesday night. The killers tied up his hands and smashed his head with boulders resulting in instant death.

The deceased was identified as Sheik Mehtab alias Salim, 23. He was working at a hotel and was staying at the NTR Colony in Tandur. Police said that on Wednesday Salim came home from work and later went out with friends. He didn’t return at night and his family searched for him near their house. On Thursday morning walkers found him lying dead in a pool of blood behind William Moon School. Alerted by them cops rushed to the spot. The Clues team and dog squad were pressed into service.

“He was found dead in a ditch on the roadside near the school. The killers attacked him with boulders on the head, face and others parts of the body. Based on a complaint by his brother Sheik Maulana a murder case was booked,” said CI M. Venkata Ramaiah.

Sheik Mehtab was involved in theft cases. He was arrested and sent to jail earlier. The victim's family suspects no one. However, cops think previous enmity could have led to the murder. Mehtab’s friends are being questioned in connection with the murder. The body was shifted to hospital and was later handed over to the family after post-mortem.
