One more B.E. student nabbed in murder case
Accused was picked up by a special team near Chetpet Railway Bridge
Chennai: City police on Friday arrested another engineering student in connection with the brutal murder of 21-year-old K. Syed Sadam at Mehta Nagar, Aminjikarai over a failed deal involving smart phones. S. Vinoth of Tiruchy was picked up by a special team near Chetpet Railway Bridge. The main accused, D. Shaktivel, who brokered the deal with Syed was arrested on Thursday. Syed’s body was shackled and found near the toilet in a decomposed state by the owner and neighbours who broke into the locked room on Thursday morning after foul odour started emanating from inside.
Police investigations revealed that four roommates were privy to the murder of Syed. “They had shackled him for at least ten days, fed him one or two meals a day and kept attacking him. It was after Shaktivel’s blow that Syed died following which the four roommates took to their heels,” said an investigating officer. Also, a missing complaint is pending against Syed at the local police station in Walajahpet, police said.
Syed and Shaktivel had entered into a deal over smart phones and the latter had given an amount of Rs 2 lakh to Syed, who failed to keep to his words. After Sakthivel complained to the local police, Syed returned him half the amount. As Syed kept evading paying the remaining amount, Shaktivel and his roommates tortured him before killing him. Hunt is on for Prakash, also an engineering student, and Steve, a chartered accountancy student.
