Visakhapatnam: Combined Andhra Pradesh had received around 6,97, 968 applications under RTI Act from 2006 to 2013 December and around 6,78, 746 have been disposed of until now, said RTI chief commissioner to both the Telugu-speaking states, Jannat Hussain.
Talking to reporters here on Friday, Mr Huss-ain said every government department should provide information under the RTI Act and the details of the information that is exempted from the purview of the Act should be displayed prominently.
A maximum of 18,709 applications were filed in 2013. Of all the government departments, revenue department received maximum applications of 16,506 and next comes municipal administration and urban development. Hyderabad topped the list of cities that received maximum number of applications followed by Visakhapatnam and Guntur.
Of the total 56,828 appeals and complaints, until 2014, 46,198 have been disposed of. “It’s every citizen’s right to know what is happening in the government and it can be obtained through the RTI. Everyone should utilise this Act for the well-being of the society,” he said.
