Siddaramaiah said he is confident that Congress supporters will win more than 50 per cent of seats
Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he is confident that Congress supporters will win more than 50 per cent of seats in the gram panchayat elections. He was speaking to mediapersons after casting his vote in Siddaramanahundi Gram Panchayat, 20 km from Mysuru on Friday.
“The panchayat elections are held on a non-political basis. But we are hopeful Congress supporters will emerge victorious in most gram panchayats,” he said. When asked about voting being made compulsory, he said, “There should be awareness among people about the need to cast votes. It is restricted to the GP elections”.
Mr Siddaramaiah visited his family deity Siddarameswara prior to voting and his friend Kempeeraiah’s house. His wife Ms Parvathi who is a voter in Siddaramanahundi did not cast her vote.
Meanwhile, the elections went off peacefully in Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajnagar and Kodagu districts.
