KOCHIShe always shied away from the limelight and focussed on her work. Dr Lovely Paulose was no different on Saturday when she retired as principal of the Government Law College Ernakulam, one of the most prestigious colleges in the city.

Dr Paulose is an alumnus of the college and she belonged to the 1979-82 batch that boasts of six sitting judges in the Kerala High Court now.
These judges were on the campus on Wednesday to give a grand farewell to her.
Justices V.K. Mohanan, P.R. Ramachandra Menon, C.K. Abdul Rahim, A.M. Shaffique, P.V. Asha and B. Sudheendra Kumar were happy because they could reunite with their classmate and sad because they cannot come back so freely again.

Former students also came to wish her well. She was a member of its faculty from 1992 to 2011, barring a few months’ break, till she was transferred to the Kozhikode Government Law College as its principal. She returned in 2014.

“I love teaching and am not that enamoured with the administrative tasks. I'm very much attached to this campus and I have only good things to tell about the students,” she said. A native of Kotham-angalam, now settled in Palarivattom, she has specialisation in Constitutional Law and Criminal Procedure. Students have only good things to say about their principal.

“After she became principal, the attendance issue haunting students was sorted out and they feel at home,” said college union chairman Muhammed Ibrahim. “She was historically part of the college and knew the pulse of the students. We are anxious how the new principal will be,” said K Sethuraj, a KSU leader. Dr Paulose said girls too could shine in the field of law and that a lot of girls were now taking up the profession.
