Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha chief minister and nine-time MP from Odisha’s Koraput Lok Sabha Dr Giridhar Gamang on Saturday resigned from the primary membership of the Congress.
“I announce my resignation with immediate effect. I have taken the decision as I have been repeatedly humiliated and insulted by the party leadership,” Dr Gamang said.
In 1999, Mr Gamang as an LS member, had voted against the then Atal Bihari Vajpayee government during a no-confidence motion in 1999. “My party didn’t defend my action and allowed me to rot in humiliation for all these year,” Mr Gamag said.
However, the local Congress did not subscribe to the explanation that he quit due to some incident of 1999.
