Uber under scanner again, another driver accused of molesting woman in Delhi
New Delhi: Uber barely managed to get back on its feet when it stumbled again. Another instance of alleged harassment of a young woman by an Uber driver has surfaced just months after a 25-year-old financial consultant was allegedly raped by an Uber driver in New Delhi.
The news comes on the day when Uber welcomed its first Indian president, an IIT Delhi and Stanford graduate Amit Jain.
The young woman alleged that the Uber driver, identified as Vinod, tried to forcefully kiss and molest her, on Sunday. The girl also claimed that her complaints to the cab service went unanswered, as reported by Hindustan Times.
The girl’s brother, clearly infuriated by the episode, attached a copy of the complaint made to Uber on May 30 along with the company's reply in a Facebook post.
His complaint read, “My sister availed your cab service, last night for Gurgaon & your driver Vinod tried to kiss her forcibly & even after registering complaint with you morons there has been no action, no update form your end. You people are pathetic, you still don't have any mechanism in place. What is making you people wait for so long?? Looking for a escape mechanism?? I am looking foe immediate, non-mechanical, machine oriented revert. Get teh culprit punished or you are in heaps of trouble for shielding him.”
Uber replied saying, "The company was following up the matter with the driver and that it has a "zero tolerance policy" for such cases."
Earlier this year, authorities in Delhi had asked the Central government to block the Uber app, saying the cab hailing company is operating illegally in Delhi.
