MUMBAI: Sohanlal Bharta Walmiki, KEM nurse Aruna Shanbaug’s murderer, has been fired from his job as a daily wage labourer at the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) mill, according to a letter by the Central Industrial Security (CISF) written to the Mumbai police on Monday.
The CISF is in-charge of all important civilian facilities including factories and airports and atomic energy centers. Walmiki, who was released from prison in 1980 after serving a 7-year jail term, went off the radar and was traced by a Marathi newspaper to his native place at Parpa near Ghaziabad in UP.
The letter was addressed to Joint CP (crime) Atulchandra Kulkarni by the assistant commandant of the CISF unit guarding the NTPC mill near Parpa where Walmiki worked as a daily wage labourer on contract.
“The letter that was addressed to me and faxed to my office on Monday afternoon has been written by the assistant commandant. It is written in Hindi and says that after reading media reports, they have seized the entry pass issued to him permanently. This means he cannot work at the factory any longer,” Mr Kulkarni said.
Walmiki, however, had claimed that he did not remember what happened the fateful night in 1974.
