Nation gets new CVC and Chief Information Commissioner
Mr Sharma is a former UP cadre IAS officer of the 1974 batch
New Delhi: The Centre on Monday cleared the names of K.V. Chowdary as Central Vigilance Commissioner and Vijai Sharma as Chief Information Commissioner, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended, among others, by Congress’ Lok Sabha leader Mallikarjun Kharge. The names have been sent to President Pranab Mukherjee and his assent is expected after his return from his foreign tour.
The crucial posts were lying vacant for over nine months, for which the Modi government had come under criticism. Sources claimed the names of three information commissioners and a vigilance commissioner were also cleared at the meeting, which was attended by home minister Rajnath Singh and finance minister Arun Jaitley.
Mr Chowdhary is a former Indian Revenue Service officer of the 1978 batch, and was the chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes. Mr Sharma is a former UP cadre IAS officer of the 1974 batch, is now serving as information commissioner. He is also a member of the National Green Tribunal.
