Wait for rain gets longer but heat is off in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

Meteorological Department had earlier forecast the arrival of the monsoon on May 30

The death toll due the heatwave sweeping the region increased with 852 dead in AP and 340 in Telangana, as on Wednesday evening.

Hyderabad: The date of arrival of the monsoon in Kerala was further set back to June 5, even as the heat wave warning in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh was withdrawn on Monday. The heat has claimed 2,200 lives in the two states.

The Indian Meteorological Department had earlier forecast the arrival of the monsoon on May 30 with a difference of four days plus or minus, ranging from May 27 to June 3.

“We hope conditions will become favourable for the monsoon onset over the Kerala coast around June 5,” said Mr B.P. Yadav, director of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The rains are expected to reach TS and AP only after June 10, most probably by June 12.
