Election Commission announces dates for MLC elections in Andhra Pradesh
It is being presumed that TD will bag nine of the 12 seats
Hyderabad: The Election Commission on Tuesday announced filling up of 11 vacant MLC seats in eight districts of Andhra Pradesh besides by-poll to one vacant seat in Kurnool from the Local Authorities Constituencies. July 3 has been fixed as the polling date and the Model Code of Conduct came into effect from Tuesday in all the nine districts for which the poll schedule has been announced.
With the code of conduct in place, AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s plan of conducting bhoomi puja for the new capital on June 6 has become doubtful. The announcement of the polls has kickstarted camp politics in the Telugu Desam as well as the Opposition YSR Congress. It is being presumed that TD will bag nine of the 12 seats due to majority in the local bodies while the YSRC will get the rest.
