G Karthikeyan’s wife to be in the forefront
Mr Antony is scheduled to inaugurate the convention at 10 am
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr M. T. Sulekha, wife of the late Speaker G. Karthikeyan and mother of K. S. Sabarinathan, will accompany her son on the campaign trail after Congress leader A. K. Antony inaugurates the UDF convention in Aruvikkara on Saturday.
KPCC leadership has chalked out an action plan. Dr Sulekha’s resignation from the post of director of State Institute of Encyclopaedic Publications was accepted by the culture minister on Monday.
She told DC that the election committee would be formed only after Saturday’s UDF convention and once it is in place, she might be accompanying him.
“If the election committee says that I too have to accompany my son on his campaign trail, I will definitely be going. As the wife of GK, I should be helping him in the campaign,” she said.
Sabarinathan’s elder brother K. S. Ananthapadmanabhan and friends with the media as well as corporate houses are working behind the social media campaign.
Congress sources told DC that the 31-year-old was keen to enter the political arena by joining Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s core team.
He had resigned as a senior manager with Tata Trust much before GK fell ill. But unfortunately the move to join the AICC core team did not work out due to the untimely demise of GK.
Meanwhile, KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran initiated damage-control measures with the disgruntled local leaders in Aruvikkara who had difficulty in accepting the candidature of Sabarinathan.
DCC president Karakulam Krishna Pillai had held talks with the local leaders. Mr Antony is scheduled to inaugurate the convention at 10 am.
