Dhoom dham abroad
Telangana associations the world over are celebrating the first anniversary
While Formation Day celebrations are on in full swing in the city, Telanganites settled abroad too are not left behind. Telangana associations from California to Canada to London are all celebrating the state’s one-year anniversary.
Silicon Valley executives and members of the Telangana Cultural Association, Sunnyvale, California, got together at the Ulavacharu restaurant in Sunnyvale to raise a toast to those who had struggled for the formation of the state. And what’s more, they also raised over $10,000 dollars for Mission Kakatiya.
In London, too, over 200 Telanganites celebrated. More than 200 Telanganites gathered together to celebrate the event in the Conservative Hall, East Ham, London. They started the cultural celebrations with a two-minute silence for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for achieving statehood for the Telanganites.
While many celebrated on June 2 itself, keeping in mind the work schedules, in many other cities, celebrations are planned over the weekend. In Canada, an event, Dhoom Dham is being organised on Saturday with many cultural performances. Cultural programs like Oggu Katha, Kolattam, Janapadam skits, Telangana folk songs etc. are planned with talented artistes from the Telangana families to promote Telangana culture and identity in Canada. “Also, we are planning to hand over $3000 dollars that we have collected towards Nepal earthquake relief to Unicef on the day,” says Chandra Swargam, the president of Telangana Canada Association.
