Hyderabad: Eleven women, including five from the state-run rescue home for minor girls, escaped from the campus at Yousufguda on Wednesday after the staff seized mobile phones from them. The inmates got out through a window, nearly 15 feet high. Of the 11 missing, nine are minors. Ten of the 11 women are married and are in the home as per court orders. One woman escaped the home along with her three-month-old daughter.
Meena, the sweeper at the home, noticed this and alerted officials, who in turn alerted the police. The police found one girl Navya, 15, a native of Nalgonda district, at a temple in the Monda Market area of Secunderabad. The women escaped from the home just before breakfast on Wednesday. They bent the grill of the window and got out using a rope.
All the escaped women actively participated in the cultural programmes held on the campus on the eve of Telangana Formation Day. The state-run home for minor girls rescued from traffickers had 25 inmates along with 11 kids, who are the children of the inmates. Thirteen joined on Tuesday evening. The rescue home for minor girls has 11 inmates.
The officials identified the missing girls as P. Durga Bhavani, 17, Sowmya Varma, 16, Akshitha, 23, Sowndarya, 17, T. Manasa, 15, Md. Chouma, 16, Savitri, 16, M. Sravanthi, 15, Haseena, 15, and G. Rekha, 21, and her three-month-old daughter.
The inmates reportedly had an argument with the in-charge of the home when the staff checked their luggage and seized mobile phones from them. “After the Metro works began the wall of the campus was destroyed. So, it was easy for the inmates to escape. Lack of security on the campus during the day also could be a reason,” said SI Saidulu of SR Nagar.
The SR Nagar police has booked a case under Section 225(B) and investigation is under process.
The police also launched a manhunt for the the 10 missing girls.
