Hyderabad: The GHMC’s list of 20 flyovers does not include the areas that see frequent bottlenecks in the city like Ramakrishnapuram, Sanathnagar, Trimulgherry, East Marredpally, MJ Market and Jambagh among others. Unlike Mumbai and Chennai, Hyderabad has fewer flyovers despite the rapidly increasing traffic. Till date, the government has not finalised a flyover at Trimulgherry. The areas connecting the Old City and new city are yet not relieved of traffic woes.

Mr B.V. Ramana, a resident of Neredmet, said, “The signal at Neredmet crossroads is always congested; firstly the main roads have been dug up for the last eight months, and it takes a minimum of two-three signals for one to cross the junction. Secondly, the main roads are very narrow and as this is a major connectivity to Trimulgherry, AOC and Malkajgiri, there is an immediate need for a flyover at this junction.”

Mr R.S. Rodrigues, a resident of East Marredpally, said, “There are a series of liquor shops on the East Marredpally main road, where customers park their vehicles on the road to buy liquor. From 6 pm to 9 pm every day, there is a massive traffic jam from the YMCA junction up to the AOC junction. Owing to several commercial shops, half of the road is occupied, a flyover from St. John’s junction up to AOC gate is needed.”

Close to 40 per cent of the approved flyovers are being constructed in the new city, few in the adjoining municipalities.

Ms N.V.V. Prasad of Raheja IT Circle added, “There is heavy congestion at the U-turn between Raheja Centre and Old Bombay Road. A flyover towards the right is needed.” The government has given its nod for construction of flyovers at KBR Park entrance, Maharaja Agrasen Jn. (Road No. 12 Jn.), Cancer Hospital Junction etc
