Showers bring mercury down in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
Hyderabad also experienced some relief after a long time
Hyderabad: While pre-monsoon showers continued across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Wednesday, people in AP got more relief than those in Telangana. Many districts of AP experienced showers since Tuesday night while Vizianagaram and Chittoor witnessed heavy rainfall, in excess of 7 cm. Garugubilli of Vizianagaram received the highest rainfall of 11 cm.
As a result, the maximum temperature remained below normal by almost 2-5ºC at many places across Andhra Pradesh. In Telangana, however, it was above normal at some places. Hyderabad also experienced some relief after a long time.
The temperature, that would hover above 41ºC and sometimes cross the 43ºC mark in the city since the heat wave started, finally dropped below 40ºC. On Wednesday, the temperature in the city was 38.2ºC and it is expected to be around the same on Thursday. On June 5, thunderstorms accompanied by increased winds are expected in Telangana.
The maximum temperature, which used to be above 46ºC in both states, fell to 40ºC in AP whereas it was at 43ºC in many places in Telangana. The Indian Meteorological Department has stated that the conditions are favourable for the monsoon to advance and onset over Kerala is expected in the next 48 hours. Following this, monsoon can be expected to arrive in AP and TS between June 10 and June 12.
