Textbooks in Telangana won’t cost more
A proposal has been sent to the government and a final decision is pending
Hyderabad: Private school managements are on tenterhooks with many students still unable to get textbooks even as the re-opening of schools is just about 10 days away. Printing began in the third week of May following the long saga pertaining to the contracts. The issue reached the court which directed the TS government to continue with the existing contracts.
This year the changed textbooks mean that students can’t make do old ones. However, there is some respite for parents as the prices of textbooks will not rise this year. “Since the High Court directed the same contractors to continue, there will not be any price hike,” a representative of one of the textbook printing firms said.
There is a demand that schools should open on June 15 instead of June 12 since June 13 and 14 are holidays. A proposal has been sent to the government and a final decision is pending.
