Deadly attack: 18 soldiers killed by militants in Manipur's Chandel district
Militants used landmines, rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons
New Delhi: Militants ambushed a military convoy in Manipur’s Chandel district on Thursday, killing 18 soldiers in the deadliest single attack on Army soldiers in several years.
The militants used landmines, rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons to execute the ambush. Eleven Armymen were injured.
Army and civilian authorities in Manipur suspect the involvement of Manipur rebel outfit People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), a Manipur-based militant organisation.
An all-out offensive was immediately launched to trace and eliminate the militants involved in the ambush. The India-Myanmar border in Manipur has also reportedly been sealed to stop the militants from fleeing to the neighbouring country.
