Handloom fest at Poompuhar

Vibrant and colourful handmade sarees and bags attract the attention of visitors

COIMBATOREVibrant and colourful handmade sarees and bags attract the attention of visitors at Poompuhar’s handloom festival. Weavers from Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Lucknow are displaying their handloom works.
 
Sarees ranging from Rs 480 to Rs 20,000 are on display. From Madurai Sungadi sarees to Chettinad sarees, Ramayanam fancy sarees, Andhra sarees, Kerala sarees, Tussar silk sarees, Rajasthan Kota sarees, Madhya Pradesh Maheswari sarees, Assam kurthas, Mangalagiri churidhar materials, Bandhini sarees, bandhini churidhar materials and Kashmir woollen 
shawls are featured at the festival.
 
Jari work bags, wall hanging and letter holders, cushion covers, panjara bags, cloth hand purse and bags and many more items are displayed for sale. Poompuhar expects a sale of Rs 5 lakh from this exhibition, said R. Narendra Bose, Poompuhar manager. A discount of 10 per cent is given on all the handlooms and textiles sold at this exhibition. 
 
“We have already started receiving a good number of visitors and buyers at the exhibition,” he added. The exhibition is on till June 15 from 10 am to 8 pm at their showroom in Big Bazaar street.
