Tamil Nadu gets on to the Maggi ban wagon
Tamil Nadu government banned Maggi Noodles for the next three months
Chennai: Joining the bandwagon, the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday banned the production, storage and sale of Maggi Noodles for the next three months. With samples testing positive for high levels of lead, the government has also ordered the company to recall the food items from the shops immediately.
Besides Maggi, the government has also banned Wai Wai Xpress Noodles, Reliance Select Instant Noodles and Smith and Jones Chicken Masala Noodles for the same duration. Of the 17 samples taken in Chennai, the results of seven samples had been received by the department till Thursday.
Of the seven samples received, six had more than 2.5 parts per million (PPM) lead content. In the first round, officials took 65 samples of Maggi and other noodles from across the state for testing.
Outlets at the city airport selling noodles will also be closed down with immediate effect following the state government’s decision to ban Maggi and other varieties of noodles.
