More Independents join fray
Election Commission has appointed Manjeet Singh as election expenditure observer
Chennai: On Friday, considered an auspicious day, eight Independent candidates filed nominations for the R.K. Nagar bypoll in the city. So far, 15 candidates have filed their papers. The nominations will be scrutinized on June 11. According to the election department, E. Ramadass, S.K. Manoharan, A. Venkatesh, M. Vasantha-kumar, P. Kumarasamy, J. Mohanraj, I. Abdul Wahid and P. Marimuthu filed their nominations as Independents Friday.
Ms J. Jayalalithaa and E. Madusoodhanan (substitute) filed nominations representing the AIADMK. Earlier in the day, the district election officer and Chennai corporation commissioner, Vikram Kapur, inspected the media centre and control room opened at Ripon Buildings three days ago to receive complaints from the public and to monitor the election expenditure in the constituency. The Election Commission has appointed Manjeet Singh as election expenditure observer (EEO) for the R.K. Nagar by-poll.
The electors of the Assembly segment can pass on complaints on violation of election expenditure to the EEO on his mobile No. 94450 71057 or email eorknagar@chennaicorporation.gov.in a statement from the election department said. It added that complaints may also be reported to the assistant expenditure obs-ervers, Pradeepkumar, (94450 71060) and Maheshkumar (94450 71059). Voters can call Corporation of Chennai at toll-free No. 1800 – 425 7012., the statement added.
