HYDERABAD: Tollywood actor Aarti’s manager Shankar revealed that the star was suffering from breathing related ailments. “A month ago, she suffered breathing problems and went in for a minor operation. She was fine but later, she developed chest pain and they took her to the hospital,” he said.
Aarti was an NRI, based in New Jersey’s Egg Harbour Township — a 20-minute drive from Atlantic City. She was one of the first “overnight stars” in Tollywood and had an incredibly successful career right from the day she started.
She was also keen on making a comeback to the film industry here and there were a few projects lined up. In fact, her latest, Ranam 2, released on Friday — the day she died. In a career spanning nearly 15 years, Aarti starred in over 20 films.
She made her debut with Hindi flick Paagalpan and entered Tollywood opposite Venkatesh in the film, Nuvvu Naku Nachav. The film was a huge hit and she went on to act opposite top stars like Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Mahesh Babu, Jr NTR and Prabhas.
In 2007, she married Ujwal Agarwal, but divorced shortly after and had been staying in the States since. Aarti’s sister Aditi is also an actress in Tollywood.
Family may take legal action:
We are absolutely devastated. Aarti was an extremely kind, gentle person and we want fans to know she was much more than what she was on screen, said the actress’ brother Akash Agarwal on Saturday.
Mr Agarwal said that Aarti fell ill and experienced health problems including shortness of breath shortly after a surgical procedure on Thursday and on Friday. The doctor even came to see her on a house visit.
“He said ‘just bring her to my office’. But we took her to a hospital where she passed away on Friday night, at around 10pm. We are waiting for final reports from the hospital on Monday and we’re also considering legal action against them,” said Mr Agarwal.
“We called them over 25 times for reasons of death because she was absolutely fine and seemed completely normal. We really didn’t expect things to go so wrong. Even on Friday, her mother was out to get her some warm soup and we were asking her to just relax. We’re planning to launch an investigation into her death and hope to get some answers soon,” he added.
He said that Aarti was one of the kindest and gentlest persons he has ever known. “And this is not just because she was my sister. Aarti would cry if she saw another person cry. She was that innocent and never caused anyone any harm,” he said.
Aarti acted in 24 films:
Aarti Agarwal made her debuted in Bollywood prior to the 2001 Telugu smash hit Nuvvu Naaku Nachav opposite actor Venkatesh. Her first film was a small Bollywood flick Paagalpan opposite actor Karan Nath. She was only 16 then.
The Hindi film wasn’t noticed, but Aarti’s Telugu debut turned her into an “overnight star.” In her nearly 15-year long career, Aarti starred in about 24 films, including a Tamil film. Two other films are slated for release. Her latest release Ranam 2 was released just a day before her untimely death.
