Artist uses all three art forms in one

She paints, sculpts and even etches. If you’re wondering what’s so special about this, then hold on. Artist Aishwarya Sultania uses all three art forms in a single work and that is what makes her stand out. In the city as part of an art-residency, the artist put up close to 30 works on subjects related to nature.
“I have loved working with various art forms and so I found it hard to choose just sculpting, or painting or etching,” says the artist who won the prestigious French Embassy and the Krishnakriti Foundation Fellowship for a residency at France.
As part of her artwork, Aishwarya uses acrylic glass. She fixes it on plywood and then sculpts it in the shape she wants. Post that she etches on the glass and then paints it. “The work is process-oriented and that is what makes it difficult. Each step needs to be done perfectly, otherwise it fails,” she says.
But out of all the processes, etching can be difficult to manage, she says. “With etching sometimes the chemical can over-bite into the acrylic glass and that makes the glass cloudy.”
Among her current artworks, there are a wide variety of paintings as well and one of them has to do with the rock formation in the city. “The first thing I noticed here were the rock formations. I was blown away by how beautiful they looked and so I went on a rock walk and created a couple of paintings,” she says.
