Guntur: Amidst chanting of mantras by priests, AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his wife Ms Bhuvaneswari performed the puja in a three-foot-wide pit with a gold-coated trowel and silver gamela.
Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman, state ministers, MPs and MLAs including actor-MLA N. Balakrishna and farmers participated in the puja. Mr Naidu said that the Bhoomi puja would be written in gold letters in world history as Amaravati would emerge the top modern capital.
Thanking the farmers of 29 villages for offering 33,600 acres of land for the capital, Mr Naidu told them to start businesses to make good use of the world market that would come up in the new capital.
Mr Naidu said not everyone would get an opportunity to build a capital, but the five crore people of the state had got the chance. The people would take it as a challenge and build a city that is better than Singapore. He said the land pooling scheme would stand as a model for the country and the world for offering a win-win model which would benefit the people and the government.
Referring to the pleasant weather, Mr Naidu said nature was blessing the people and the government with a cool breeze and little rain. He said Amaravati was the capital of the Gods; they are blessing the historic event of bhoomi puja for a new capital.
Mr Naidu said he had developed Hyderabad, Cyberabad and the IT sector in undivided AP and assured that he would not flinch from the task of developing a world-class capital despite hurdles. Ms Sitharaman assured that the Centre would cooperate with the state to build the capital.
Opening of Naidu’s camp office postponed to June 8:
The pleasant climate at the bhoomi puja site on Saturday caused the postponement of inauguration of the CM’s Vijayawada camp office. The day began with rain in most parts of Guntur and Vijayawada, casting a doubt on the bhoomi puja being held on schedule. However, there was not much rain at the bhoomi puja site, Survey No. 136, Mandadam, but the weather stayed cool.
Mr Naidu was apparently pleased with the rain, seeing it as auspicious sign and stayed at the bhoomi puja site for longer than scheduled. Due to this, the muhurtham for the inauguration of the camp office passed. The inauguration has now been scheduled for June 8.
Mr Naidu, speaking at the bhoomi puja, said it was a historic day for the people of Andhra Pradesh. “The bhoomi puja in Amaravati is symbolic of a million dreams turning into reality,” he said. He recalled that whenever N.T. Rama Rao started programmes including the Mahanadu, it always rained.
