SalemRoses turned into a rhinoceros and vegetables transformed into a dragon while tall grasses became an 8-foot parrot at the floral, fruit and vegetable carnival at the hill station of Yercaud on Saturday.

About 8,000 roses had been arranged exquisitely to create a floral rhino doll. Then, an India Gate emerged at the Anna park with 15,000 roses. About 150 kgs of vegetables had been carved intricately to make a veggie dragon. And 100 kgs of bitter gourd had been used to carve out a crocodile.

The 40th annual flower show was inaugurated by the Yercaud MLA, P.Saroja and the district collector, K.Maharabushanam presided over the inaugural. It was a floral spectacle for tourists flocking to Yercaud as roses, tulips orchids, daisy, bird of paradise, lilium and aster flowers  spread out a colourful carpet of flowers. More than 5 lakh flowers in full bloom adorned the Yercaud’s Anna park.

Besides flowers, there was a fruit and vegetable show as well. At the entrance to the park, fruits weighing nearly one tonne provided the welcome arch. A dainty lady made of nine grains was the highlight of the show.

The visitors were enlightened on how to grow and maintain a terrace garden and cultivate organic vegetables and fruits.
