Dinesh Prabhakar, who acted as Benny Chacko in the recent movie Lukka Chuppi is happy that audience have accepted his character and the experimental movie. The movie narrates the story of a few collegemates who meet after a long time. “I play one friend who is a drunkard in Lukka Chuppi. He leads a disappointed life, but happiness comes back to his life once he meets his friends.”

“Benny Chacko is one of the significant characters I have done so far. I get a lot of appreciations for this character,” says Dinesh, who is also one of the executive producers of Lukka Chuppi directed by new director Bash Mohammed.

“The industry was unfamiliar to Bash and hence he approached me first. I did the casting for Lukka Chuppi. And thus became the executive producer. Bash had given me the freedom to choose the character I like. But, I felt that my body language would suit Benny well. So I chose that,” he adds. Murali  Gopi, Joju, Chinnu Kuruvilla, Asmita Sood and Jayasurya play his other friends in Lukka Chuppi.

Dinesh has been there with the movie since beginning and he says that they were quite apprehensive about audience’s reaction. “Because it is an experimental movie and people within the industry have said that the plot will not work. The whole story takes place in a single location (Sidhu’s house) and it develops through conversation between friends. There are no flash back scenes. Everything is conveyed through dialogues. That was the most challenging part too. This movie was supposed to release a few months before. But, no one was willing to distribute it citing the unique plot. But, Bash and we were confident about the plot and we took it to the theatre. And we are happy with the warm response,” says Dinesh.

Besides Lukka Chuppi, Dinesh did a character role in Premam too. “That was a long role. Later, it was cut short. Actually, Lukka Chuppi starts where Premam ends. If Premam talks about love and ends in a happy marriage, Lukka Chuppi talks about the life after marriage. But, the movie is not about extra marital affairs,” says Dinesh.

Is he tired of doing character roles? “Not really. But, sometimes, I feel that I can do more than what I am doing now. I really hope that directors will realise my potential and will utilise that in future,” he says. His upcoming movies include Pathemari, Jamuna Pyari, Ayal Njan Alla, Love 24x7 and Kunjiramayanam.
