Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has identified 40 growth engines to achieve the status of a developed economy with a per-capita income exceeding Rs10 lakh by 2029.
Communications advisor Parakala Prabhakar, said, “For achieving double digit growth, we have identified 40 growth engines across three main sectors — agriculture, industry and services, which together account for 80 per cent of the Gross State Domestic Product.”
The state government has taken up the Rs 1,300-crore Pattiseema lift irrigation project to solve the water woes of Rayalaseema. CM N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the project on March 29, 2015. The project aims to divert the flood waters of Godavari to the Krishna delta.
“The project will be operational within a year. To speed up the diversion of 80 tmc feet water, 13 pumps will be set up to discharge 8,500 cusecs of water,” said Mr Prabhakar. Minister for irrigation Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, said, “Our government has expedited Polavaram project process. In all, 50 per cent of canal works have been completed. We are keen on completing the entire project by June 2018.”
Under the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi Phase 1, 16.80 tmc of water was used for Kurnool and Anantapur districts for irrigation and drinking. The Krishna and Godavari rivers have also been interlinked to utilise the early benefits of the Polavaram project.
