ChennaiBala Vidya Mandir School at Adyar reopened on Monday after a weeklong protest by students, parents and teachers against the school management’s decision to charge excess fee and other management issues.

At about 9.15 a.m. on Monday, parents, students and teachers took part in the prayer assembly before students went to attend their regular classroom session with Mr Srinivasa Raghavan, being appointed again as principal of the school.

Some parents waited outside the school campus until their children came out of the school in the afternoon, as they wanted to make sure nothing unpleasant happened on the reopening day.

Parents said their representatives held a marathon meeting with school managing trustee Ramana Prasad until 2 am on Monday pressing their demands. “Mr Prasad accepted our demands not to force students to join the IIT training course offered by the school apart from the robotics program. The managing trustee has also demanded time to move Meritus, Robotix and BVM Global out of the school campus,” one of the parents said.

Parents said the officer appointed by the Justice Singaravelu fee committee is expected to inspect the school on Tuesday as parents had filed a complaint with the committee for charging more fees.
