THIRUVANANATHAPURAM: With opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan all set to launch  campaign for LDF candidate M Vijayakumar on Tuesday, the left camp is upbeat.

The veteran leader will inaugurate an election meeting in Aryanad junction. The meeting will also be addressed by prominent LDF leaders.

Achuthanandan’s exclusion from the LDF inaugural convention on June 3 had demoralised the left cadres in the constituency. Vijayakumar had himself requested Achuthanandan to campaign in Aruvikkara sensing the mood of the grass roots level workers.

While the CPM state leadership was not quite keen initially to entrust major campaign assignment with the veteran leader, the popular demand for the opposition leader grew during the past few days forcing the party to retract its early stand. Despite facing opposition from the state party leadership, the 92 year old leader continues to be the biggest crowd puller of the LDF in the state.

Achuthanandan is expected to attend public meetings in all eight panchayts and even participate in road shows which are being planned towards the end of the campaign.
